Nature Hub Work Book

This workbook introduces the concept of dementia-inclusive outdoor spaces called Nature Hubs, highlighting how engagement with nature can alleviate isolation and enhance overall well-being by improving physical activity, social connectivity, and cognitive function. The workbook is structured into three core topics: understanding the experience of dementia, exploring the benefits and practicalities of nature connection for those with dementia, and developing, supportive communication strategies. Each section offers a brief overview with links to external multimedia and reading resources for deeper exploration, encouraging users to combat stigma and foster inclusive environments. Nature Hub Guide

The Nature Hubs Guide from Venture Out Nature Hubs offers a framework for creating dementia-inclusive outdoor environments. This guide aims to help sites foster nature connection for individuals facing physical or cognitive challenges, highlighting the benefits of outdoor engagement. It outlines five core principles, Dignity and Choice, Familiarity and Culture, Accessibility and Safety, Flexibility and Adaptability, and Rest and Stimulation Balance, each providing suggestions and reflection prompts to assist in transforming spaces. The document emphasises that no two Nature Hubs will be identical, encouraging organisations to tailor the principles to their unique settings and integrate them with Venture Out's learning resources for comprehensive support.
